Burnley and Southampton face off in an English Premier League showdown on Saturday at the Turf Moor in Burnley.
Burnley has played one game so far in the Premier League against Leicester City and it didn’t end well. Chris Wood actually started the scoring in that game, with a goal in the 10th minute, but the defense let them down as the game went on and that led to a 4-2 defeat. Burnley only had 32 percent of the possession in that game and that led to the loss. Burnley did have a midweek game against Millwall in the third round in the EFL Cup, and in that game Burnley was able to win 2-0. Josh Brownhill opened up the scoring in the 45th minute and in that game they did have 51 percent of the possession. In that game they let up nine shots with four of those going on target.
On the other side of this matchup is Southampton F.C. who have played two games so far this season and both didn’t go according to plan. The first game of the season against Southampton against Crystal Palace they lost 1-0. Southampton did have 71 percent of the possession in that game, but they couldn't get any of their five shots on goal in the back of the net. In the second game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton’s defense was terrible giving up five goals and that led to a 5-2 loss. The two goals by Southampton were scored by Danny Ings and in this game they need him to have another big game. Southampton actually had 53 percent of the possession in that game, and seven shots on goal. They only allowed six shots on goal and four of those went into the back of the net. In this game Southampton needs better goalie play.
Southampton is again going to control possession, but this game they are going to get the job done with their shots on goal in this game. Look for Southampton to score a goal early, and they will never look back. Southampton will win by a couple of goals, but just take them on the money line to be safe.
