Elche CF is welcoming Real Sociedad to Estadio Martinez Valero in round 3 in the Spanish LaLiga.
Elche is the newcomer to LaLiga, but they are yet to play their first game of the season. Elche has played 1 friendly game in the offseason, and they haven’t scored a goal in that match, but they have also conceded only 1 goal. In their latest friendly game against Barcelona, Elche was decent defensively, and they have conceded only 1 goal. Elche has lost this match 1-0. After ending LaLiga 2 last season in 6th place, Elche went into the promotion playoffs where they knocked out Zaragoza, and Girona in the second round of the promotion playoffs. Nino is the only injured player for Elche, and he will miss the first game of the season. Elche has signed a few players, but they also sold a few players, and I’m not sure if it will be enough for Elche to stay in LaLiga. Of course, the season has just started, and this is the first game for Elche, and as we all know, anything is possible in soccer.
Real Sociedad is a good team, but all of their injuries have impacted their game as of late. Real Sociedad has 2 draws in their first two games, alongside 1 scored and 1 conceded goal. In their latest LaLiga match against Real Madrid at home, Sociedad has had only 32% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 1 corner kick, 1 big chance created, and 76% of the correct passes. Defensively, Sociedad has had a good game, but that’s about it from them. This match has ended in a 0-0 draw. Roberto Lopez is the only goalscorer for Sociedad with 1 goal so far this season. The injury list is quite long for Sociedad, and Sola, Guevara, Illarramendi, Jose, Zaldua, David Silva, and Zubimendi are all on the list. There are enough good players left in the roster for Sociedad to make a decent starting lineup, but the lack of depth might be a huge problem for Sociedad. With 56 points, Sociedad has ended last season in 6th place, and they will be playing in the Europa League this season. Real Sociedad is a talented team capable of accomplishing more than 6th place, but the consistency was their biggest issue last season. The good news for Sociedad is that they are still undefeated this season, and if they can stay undefeated until some of their players return, Sociedad will have a good start of the season.
Elche and Real Sociedad have played their last game in 2015. Elche hasn’t lost any of their last 5 home games, while Real Sociedad hasn’t won any of their last 6 games overall. When playing at home, Elche has not lost to Real Sociedad in their last 3 games. If Sociedad was playing in their strongest lineup, this would be a no brainer for me, but considering Sociedad has a lot of key players on the injury list, I will give Elche a shot here.
