Roma is hosting Juventus at Stadio Olimpico in a derby match of round 2 in the Italian Serie A.
Roma has done well in the preseason, and their first game of the Serie A season was good, but they lost 3-0 because of the technical mistake Roma’s people did when registering players for this game. Roma was the better team in this match with 61% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 77% of the correct passes. Unfortunately for Roma and their stupid mistake, they were left without points in this game. Perotti, Zaniolo, and Peres are injured, while Fazio and Pastore are still questionable for this game. I was reading this week that this mistake is just one of the many Roma has made recently, but I don’t know, Roma seems to be playing well, and they are constantly improving. Roma has ended last season in 5th place with 70 points, and they were one of the best offensive teams in Serie A with 77 scored goals. Roma’s defense on the other hand was not so good, and they conceded 51 goals in 38 games. Roma didn’t start this season well, but it was only the first game of the season, and there is plenty of time for Roma to get back on track.
After the disappointment in the Champions League, Juventus has made a few changes in their roster, and I must say, they look a lot more dangerous than last season. Juventus is on a 3-game winning streak, and they have started the new Serie A season well. Juventus was hosting Sampdoria in their first game, and they were the dominant team with 66% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and high 90% of the correct passes. Juventus has deservedly won this game 3-0. Kulusevski, Bonucci, and Ronaldo each scored 1 goal for Juventus, while Ronaldo and Ramsey each added 1 assist. De Ligt and Bernardeschi are injured, while Dybala is still questionable. The biggest change in Juventus happened on a coaching position, and the Italian legend and one of their best players in history, Andrea Pirlo, was signed as the new head coach after Sarri got fired. So far, Juventus is doing well, but we will see if Juventus can defend the Serie A title and if Pirlo is good enough to handle the Champions League pressure in Juventus. They might not be the biggest favorite to win Serie A this season, but Juventus certainly is one of the favorites to win it.
During the last 28 games Roma has played against Juventus at home, Roma has won 9, Juventus has won 9, while 10 games ended in a draw. Juventus is the favorite here, and deservedly so because they have fewer injuries, and they have more depth. We are getting Juventus at a fantastic price, and there is no way I’m missing that. I’m sticking with Juventus on the road.
