RB Leipzig is welcoming FC Schalke 04 to Red Bull Arena in round 3 in German Bundesliga.
Leipzig has had a great run in the Champions League last season, and they ended up in third place in Bundesliga last season. Leipzig hasn’t lost any of their last 3 games so far this season. With 4 points, 4 scored goals, and 2 conceded goals in 2 games, Leipzig is in 4th place in the standings at the moment. In their latest Bundesliga game against Leverkusen on the road, Leipzig has had only 41% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, 2 big chances created, and 71% of the correct passes. After getting ahead in the 14th minute, Leipzig has conceded a goal in the 20th minute, and the first half ended in a 1-1 draw. There weren’t any goals scored in the second half, and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. Konate, Laimer, and Sabitzer are all injured, and they will not be at the coach’s Nagelsmann disposal. Forsberg gas scored 2 goals and has added 1 assist for Leipzig so far this season, while Poulsen has 1 goal and 1 assist. Haidara has scored 1 goal, and Olmo has added 1 more assist. Alongside Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig is the best team in Bundesliga, and I see them in the title run once again this season.
Schalke has a disastrous start of the season with 2 losses, 11 conceded goals, and only 1 scored a goal. Sure, Schalke is in full rebuild mode, but this is just bad. In their last Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen at home, Schalke has had 65% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 75% of the correct passes. Schalke’s defense was just horrible in this match, and not only they conceded 3 goals, but Schalke has also conceded a red card. Schalke ended up losing this match 1-3. Mark Uth has scored the only goal for Schalke so far this season. Serdar is the only injured player for Schalke as of right now. Kabak will also miss this game because of the red card. To be honest, I don’t expect absolutely anything from Schalke this season, and their only goal should be to stay in Bundesliga, but they will need to be really lucky if they accomplish that. Schalke is in free fall over the last few seasons, but who knows, maybe this rebuild will have a positive effect on this team.
There is no way in hell I would side with Schalke in this matchup. Leipzig is the better team, in far better form, and they have much more depth than Schalke. Defensively, Schalke has been the worst team in Bundesliga this season, and I don’t see a way they can beat Leipzig, on the road.
