Ukraine is hosting Spain at Olimpiysky National Sports Complex in round 4 in the UEFA Nations League.
Ukraine has done incredibly well in the Euro Cup qualifications, but they have lost 3 straight games while conceding 13 goals and scoring only 2 goals during that stretch. With 3 points, 3 scored goals, and 7 conceded goals, Ukraine is in 3rd place in the standings. In their latest match against Germany at home, Ukraine was the weaker team with 27% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 0 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 78% of the correct passes. Ukraine was losing 0-2 in the 49th minute, but they were able to cut that in half in the 76th minute from a penalty kick. The result hasn’t changed again, and Ukraine has lost this match 1-2. Zinchenko, Malinovskiy, and Yarmolenko have each scored 1 goal for Ukraine so far in the Nations League, while Tymchyk and Mykhaylichenko added 1 assist each. I like Ukraine, they have some great players, they are coached by a great coach, and they are playing good soccer. This slump came at an unfortunate time for Ukraine, but I think they will be ready for the Euro Cup next year.
I keep backing Spain to score some goals, and I keep losing. Spain is an excellent team that is dominating against anyone they play, but their offense needs some serious work. Spain has everything but that one classic striker that can covert most of their chances into goals. Spain is in the first place of their group in the Nations League with 7 goals, 6 scored goals, and only 1 conceded goal. You know Spain has problems when Ramos is their leading goalscorer with 2 goals. Moreno, Olmo, and Merino have each added 1 assist. In their latest match against Switzerland at home, Spain was the dominant team with 59% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and a solid 87% of the correct passes. Spain has scored a goal in the 14th minute, but they haven’t created a decent chance after that until Traore entered the game in the 57th minute. Spain became more direct since that point, more dangerous, and they stopped hogging the ball in the midfield, but they weren’t able to score another goal. Spain has won this match 1-0. Spain is always one of the biggest favorites to win a big competition, but unless they solve their striker problems, I don’t see Spain getting much further than passing the group stage.
Ukraine has never beaten Spain in the past and given their current form, I don’t think they will. Spain has played only twice against Ukraine on the road, and they have won 1 game, while the second one ended in a draw. You know what, I will stick with Spain and goals once again here because they are the better team here, and I believe we can expect Traore in the starting lineup in this match.
