Chelsea faces Southampton on Saturday, October 17th at Stamford Bridge for an English Premier League Match.
The Premier League was off last week, but we are back and ready for some football action. Chelsea's last match was on October 3rd against Crystal Palace in Premier League play. In that match, Chelsea blanked Crystal Palace by the final score of 4-0. Chelsea is now 2-1-1 on the year, which puts the club in seventh place in the Premier League table to start the season. Chelsea will obviously like to finish the season a lot higher than seventh, and that starts with a win over a feasible team at Stamford like Southampton. Chelsea's only loss of the Premier League season came against tough competition in Liverpool on September 20th. Overall this season Chelsea has scored 10 goals and conceded six to the opposition, therefore the club has a +4 goal differential thus far.
Southampton's last match was on October 4th against a team that drew against Chelsea, West Bromwich. Southampton took down West Brom by the final score of 2-0, earning its second win of the Premier League season so far. Southampton is actually on a two-match winning streak after also taking down Burnley on the road. Southampton is 2-0-2 and sits in 11th place in the Premier League standings. Southampton has scored five goals and has conceded six goals, therefore the club has a -1 goal differential thus far.
The last time Chelsea and Southampton met was on December 26th of 2019. In that match, Southampton was able to pull off the upset and takedown Chelsea at Stamford Bridge by the final score of 2-0. Chelsea, however, has won three of the last five matches played against Southampton in the two team's history.
I like Chelsea to pull out a win at home after such a long break. Chelsea could use the three points to propel itself back into the top-five of the Premier League standings, and I think Chelsea's talent will shine on Saturday. I will take Chelsea against the spread here.
