Newcastle United and Southampton face off in an English Premier League showdown on Friday at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Newcastle United have been up and down this season and they come into this game in 11th place in the standings with 11 points. The biggest issue Newcastle this season has been with their defensive success and that has led to inconsistency. Over the last four games, Newcastle has won two games, lost a game and also played another game to a draw. In the last game against Everton, Newcastle was quite impressive putting up two goals, and that led to a 2-1 victory, Newcastle only had 37 percent of the possession in that game, but they put the goals into the back of the net. One issue for Newcastle has been their lack of possession in games and even though they put goals in the back of the net, they need to work on having the ball in their possession more.
On the other side of this matchup is Southampton who currently sit in 5th place in the standings with 13 points. Southampton has been a really strong offensive team so far this season and in their last game against Aston Villa they were able to come away with a 4-3 victory. James Ward-Prowse has had a big year for the team and in the last game, he put two goals in the back of the net. Over the last four games Southampton has scored at least two goals, and even though the defense at times has struggled, the offense has made up for it. Going forward though, the defense is going to need to be better or they are playing with fire.
Southampton is an elite offensive team and they are going to have most of the possession in this game. Look for Southampton to run up the score in this game, and this game is going to go well over the posted total. I am buying up the total to 3.5 to get extra value. In terms of the side Southampton on the money line or -1 are also good plays.
