Milan is welcoming Hellas Verona at San Siro in round 7 in the Italian Serie A.
Well, it happened, Milan has lost their first game of the season, and their first game since early March of this year. Milan was hosting Lille earlier this week in the Europa League, and even though they have created a few good chances, Milan was terrible in the defensive end, and they lost this game 0-3. Despite this loss, Milan is in second place in their group with 6 points. Milan is still untouched in Serie A, and they are at the top of the table with 16 points, 14 scored goals, and 5 conceded goals. In their last Serie A game, Milan was playing against Udinese on the road, and they have had 60% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 88% of the correct passes. With 1 scored goal in each half, Milan has won this game 1-2. Ibrahimovic has scored 7 goals for Milan so far this season, while Leao and Kessie have added 2 goals each. Leao has also added 3 assists. Milan is playing well, and now that they have Rebic back, Milan has expanded their attacking options. I love this Milan, and I think they will be a massive threat to Juventus, and they could possibly win the title this season.
Verona is constantly surprising teams they play against, and they have lost only 1 game this season. Verona also has 3 wins and 2 draws so far. With 11 points, Verona is in 7th place, and they are the best defensive team in the league with only 3 conceded goals. In their last Serie A match, Verona was hosting Benevento, and they have had 43% of ball possession in that game, 6 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 4 big chances created, and a decent 75% of the correct passes. Verona has won this game 3-1. Favilli and Barak are the leading goalscorers with 2 goals each. Dimarco and Zaccagni have both added 2 assists. Danzi, Benassi, Faraoni, Favilli, and Vieira are all injured, while Veloso and Ruegg are both still questionable for this game. Verona has had a great last season, and they have started this season well, but I can’t help but wonder how long Verona can keep up with their outstanding defense while letting their opponents have the majority of possession. This tactic might work against the weaker teams in the league, and maybe against a few stronger teams, but to keep doing this consistently, I’m not so sure.
When playing at home, Milan has not lost to Verona in their last 10 games. Verona hasn’t won any of their last 13 games on the road. I see Milan bouncing back from their unfortunate loss in the Europa League with a nice home win in Serie A.
