Germany is welcoming Ukraine to Red Bull Arena in round 5 in the UEFA Nations League.
Germany is very inconsistent on the defensive end as of late, and they have conceded at least 1 goal in all 4 of their Nations League games, and their last 6 games overall. Germany has 1 win and 3 draws so far in the Nations League, and they are in 2nd place with 6 points, 7 scored goals, and 6 conceded goals. Earlier this week Germany was hosting Czech Republic in a friendly match, and they have won that game 1-0 despite being without most of their best players. In their last Nations League game, Germany was plying against Switzerland at home, and they were the dominant team in that game with 62% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and a solid 86% of the correct passes. This was an exciting game with plenty of goals where Germany was losing 0-2, then again 2-3, while the final score was 3-3. Timo Werner has scored 2 goals and added 1 assist for Germany in this Nations League so far. Hofmann is the only injured player for Germany at this time. Germany is the team that can’t be underestimated despite their form, and they certainly have enough quality to go against any team out there, and once again Germany will be one of the favorites in the Euro Cup next year.
Ukraine is also the team that is playing hot and cold as of late, and they have lost in their friendly game against Poland earlier this week. In the Nations League, Ukraine is in 3rd place with 6 points, 4 scored goals, and 7 conceded goals, same as Germany in second place and only 1 point less than Spain at the top. Ukraine still has a good chance to advance past the group stage here, but they can’t afford to lose to Germany in this match. In their last Nations League game, Ukraine was hosting Spain, and they have had only 28% of ball possession, which is extremely low, 1 shot on target, 3 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and only 70% of the correct passes. Despite being a much weaker team in this game, Ukraine has scored a goal in the 76th minute, and they have won this match 1-0. Zinchenko, Malinovskyi, Tsygankov, and Yarmolenko have each scored 1 goal for Ukraine in the Nations League, while Yarmolenko also has 1 assist. Ukraine is constantly improving under Shevchenko as their head coach, and they are winning games, but I’m not sure they have the depth to repeat the game against Spain and to surprise Germany here.
Germany hasn’t lost in their last 11 games, while Ukraine has lost 3 straight games on the road. Germany has never lost to Ukraine in the past, and I don’t see them starting now. Germany has better players, and they are playing at home. I’m taking Germany.
