Atletico Madrid is welcoming Bayern Munich to Wanda Metropolitano in round 5 in the UEFA Champions League.
Even though Atletico has only 1 loss in the Champions League so far, they are still in danger of not advancing to the next stage because Lokomotiv Moscow is only 2 points away from them. Atletico has 5 points, 4 scored goals, and 7 conceded goals, and they are in 2nd place in their group. Atletico has 2 draws in a row in the Champions League, and the last one was against Lokomotiv Moscow at home. In their LaLiga game, Atletico was playing on the road against Valencia, and they have won that match 0-1. In their last Champions League game, Atletico was the dominant team with 64% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 16 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and a solid 87% of the correct passes. Despite all the good chances and shots on goal, Atletico wasn’t able to score a goal, and this game ended in a 0-0 draw. Felix has scored 2 goals for Atletico, while Gimenez and Llorente added 1 goal each. Vrsaljko, Suarez, Herrera, Torreira, Sanchez, and Costa are all injured, or in quarantine. Atletico is doing really well in LaLiga, but they are not focused enough in the Champions League, and I hope that won’t cost them.
Bayern still hasn’t lost a game, and they are now on a 2-game winning streak. Bayern’s latest win was against Stuttgart in Bundesliga, and they have won that game 1-3 after losing 1-0. In their Champions League group, Bayern is at the top with 12 points, 15 scored goals, and 4 conceded goals, and they are undefeated. In their last Champions League game, Bayern was hosting Salzburg, and they have had 59% of ball possession in that game, 5 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and a decent 83% of the correct passes. As per usual, Bayern was the better team in this game, and they ended up winning 3-1, but they also conceded a red card. Lewandowski and Coman have each scored 3 goals for Bayern so far in the Champions League, while Sane and Goretzka added 2 goals each. Kimmich has added 3 assists, but he is injured. Alongside Kimmich, Davies is also injured, while Roca is suspended because of the red card. Bayern has been the best team in Europe for a while now, and they don’t look like they will stop anytime soon. Bayern has depth, quality, and a good soccer style, and they are once again the biggest favorites to win the Champions League.
Bayern has demolished Atletico in their first game this season 4-0 at home, and considering how many injuries Atletico has, and their form in the Champions League, the same could happen again. I know Atletico has to win this game, and they are playing at home, but I just don’t see it.
