Villarreal is welcoming Elche to Estadio de la Ceramica in round 12 in the Spanish LaLiga.
Villarreal is doing a fantastic job this season, as I expected them to when they hired coach Emery. Villarreal is in 4th place in LaLiga with 20 points, 15 scored goals, and 11 conceded goals, and they have only 1 loss so far this season. In the Europa League, Villarreal is in first place in their group, and they will be advancing to the next stage. In their latest LaLiga game, Villarreal was playing against Sociedad on the road, and they have had 46% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 74% of the correct passes. Villarreal got ahead from the penalty spot in the 6th minute, but they conceded a goal in the 33rd minute also from the penalty spot. Gerard Moreno scored 6 goals for Villarreal, while Alcacer added 5 goals and 2 assists. Alberto Moreno, Bacca, and Gomez are all injured, while Alcacer is still questionable. Villarreal has been outstanding in the attacking end so far this season, especially in the Europa League where they scored 14 goals. I think this will be a fantastic season for Villarreal, but I think they will need a few reinforcements in the winter transfer window to increase their depth.
Elche has done some good things so far this season, but they are on a 3-game draw streak, while also losing 1 of their last 4 games. Elche is now in 10th place in the LaLiga standings with 13 points, but only because of their defense that conceded only 10 goals so far. Offensively, Elche is yet to wake up, and they have scored only 9 goals in 9 games. Elche was playing against Cadiz at home last weekend, and they have had 47% of ball possession in that game, 3 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, 0 big chances created, and a decent 82% of the correct passes. Elche got ahead in the 38th minute, but they conceded a red card in the 49th minute, and that is what cost Elche the win here. This game ended in a 1-1 draw. Boye, Fidel, Morente, and Josan have each scored 2 goals for Elche so far this season. Fidel also has 2 assists. Rigoni is the only injured player for Elche at this time. Elche is the newcomer to LaLiga after ending the last season in LaLiga 2 in 6th place, and they got lucky in the promotion playoffs. There are weaker teams in LaLiga this season, and for that reason, I believe Elche will stay in LaLiga.
The trends are mixed here, but Villarreal has not lost to Elche in their last 3 home games. Villarreal is still undefeated at home this season. Villarreal can focus in LaLiga because they are safe in the Europa League, and they are in much better form than Elche. I’m taking Villarreal at home.
