Eintracht Frankfurt is hosting Freiburg at Commerzbank Arena in round 28 of the German Bundesliga.

Eintracht wasn’t playing well before the season got paused, and they started the season again even worse. Eintracht has lost both of their games in the last 2 weeks and has conceded 8 goals on those 2 games. I know that Eintracht was playing against some top teams in their last two games but conceding 8 goals are still too much. With only 28 points, Eintracht is in 14th place in the standings, just 4 points above the relegation zone. In their latest Bundesliga game against Bayern Munich, Eintracht was a huge underdog and they had only 35% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 69% of the correct passes. Eintracht was able to score 2 goals in this game, but they still lost 5-2. Eintracht is still in the Europa League, but unfortunately, they lost the first leg of the knockouts against Basel 0-3. Eintracht was playing well over the last couple of seasons, but this one was a flop which is certainly disappointing because Eintracht has a solid team. Hinteregger has scored 8 goals, while Paciencia added 7 goals. Paciencia, Cavar, Cetin, Stendera, Wiedwald, and Zimmermann are all injured, and the injury list this long will certainly impact the rest of the season for Eintracht.

Freiburg has been more than good this season and they are in 7th place in the standings with 37 points, just 2 points away from the Europa League spot. Nils Petersen is the leading goal scorer for Freiburg with 8 goals, while Waldschmidt added 5 goals. Gunter added 6 assists. Kubler, Kath, Ravet, Flekken, and Waldschmidt are all injured and will miss this match. In their latest match against Werder at home, Freiburg has had 63% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and 86% of the correct passes. Freiburg was the better team by far in this match, but unfortunately for Freiburg, they weren’t able to use any of their chances against a weak team as Werder, and in the end, Freiburg has lost this game 0-1. Freiburg is a solid team, but I think their success this season has to do more with luck than with the quality. Freiburg’s main goal was to stay outside the relegation zone this season, and I would say they accomplished that, but now that the Europa League is within their reach, Freiburg’s appetites have increased. Does Freiburg have the quality and depth to reach that Europa League spot, I don’t think so, but with the way this season is developing, anything is possible.

The trends are pretty evenly matched between Eintracht and Freiburg, and the home-field advantage doesn’t mean much these days. Freiburg is in the better form, but I think it’s time for Eintracht to get out of this slump.
