Minsk is struggling massively this season, even worse than last season, and they are in 14th place with 13 points, the relegation playoffs. Overall, Minsk has scored only 14 goals this season, while conceding 24 goals in 12 games, an average of 2 conceded goals per game. In their last Vysshaya League game against Vitebsk, Minsk has had 58% of ball possession, but only 1 shot on goal, and 8 corner kicks. Minsk has had some control in this game, but they still conceded 1 goal and lost this game 1-0. It’s a tough, tough season for Minsk, and they will not come anywhere near to the top of the Vysshaya League, but I believe that in the end, Minsk will get out of the relegation zone because there are worse teams in the league than FC Minsk.

Shakhtyor is having an outstanding season and they haven’t lost any of their last 10 games. In the standings, Shakhtyor is in second place with 26 points, 4 points behind Bate Borisov, but what is more impressive is that Shakhtyor has conceded only 6 goals so far this season. The best defensive team in the Vysshaya League this season, by far. Their offense has been on fire as of late as well, and Shakhtyor has scored 20 goals in 14 games so far this season. In their last Vysshaya League game against Rukh Brest at home, Shakhtyor was the big favorite and they were supposed to be.  Shakhtyor has had 58% of ball possession in that game, 8 shots on goal, and 6 corner kicks. This was a game where their offense has failed them and Shakhtyor has scored only 1 goal despite having many good chances, and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. Shakhtyor was close to the title last season, but they ended up in 3rd place, but this season they are much closer and if they will be able to keep up with Bate Borisov until the end, Shakhtyor might give themselves a chance to win the title. Their defense has been outstanding, now it’s the time for Shakhtyor to raise their offense to a higher level and to stay on this course.

The trends are in Shakhtyor’s side in this matchup, but Minsk has had some success against them at home. There is no way I’m backing Minsk in their current form against the best defense in the League. Minsk must do a lot better to earn my trust. I’m taking Shakhtyor in this one.
