FC Porto is welcoming Maritimo to Estadio do Dragao in part of round 26 in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

Alongside Benfica, Porto is the best team in Portugal, and they have been in a slightly better form than Benfica, but they gambled away their advantage in the game against Famalicao last week. Porto was the better team by far in that match with massive 62% of ball possession, 7 corner kicks, 6 shots on goal, and 85% of the correct passes. We didn’t see any goals in the first half, but the second half was eventful. Famalicao has scored the leading goal in the 48th minute, while Porto tied the game in 74th minute. Instead of finishing the job, Porto has conceded another goal just four minutes later and has lost this match 2-1. With this loss, Porto has lost the first place to Benfica, but they are still close as they have the same amount of points. Alex Telles is the leading goal scorer for Porto with 8 goals, while Ze Luis and Soares both scored 7 goals. Jesus Corona added 8 assists for Porto. With 51 scored goals, and 18 conceded goals, Porto is the second-best team in Portugal, but in my opinion, Porto is not as nearly as talented as Benfica is, and for that reason, I think that Porto will not win the title this season, but I have a feeling that the race will be tight.

Maritimo is in 15th place in the Primeira Liga standings with 25 points, but they haven’t been playing in good form recently. Maritimo has scored only 23 goals this season, while they conceded 33 goals in 25 games. Maritimo hasn’t won any of their last 4 games, while they have won only 1 of their last 10 games. In their latest match in the Primeira Liga against Vitoria de Setubal at home, Maritimo was solid with 52% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 10 corner kicks, and 83% of the correct passes. Maritimo had the lead since the 11th minute, and they absolutely deserved to win this game, but Vitoria has scored a goal in 82nd minute and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. Pinha is Maritimo’s leading goal scorer with only 5 goals, while Getterson and Maeda added 3 goals each. Maritimo is a weak team, one of the weakest in the Primeira Liga, but at least for now, Maritimo is safely outside the relegation zone. The first thing Maritimo must try to fix is their defense as they conceded at least one goal in their last 4 games, once that problem is dealt with, everything else will fall into place and Maritimo will spend one more season in the Primeira Liga.

The trends are on Porto’s side, and Maritimo has won only 1 game against Port on the road. After they slipped up in their game last week, Porto was lucky that Benfica slipped up as well, which is something Porto can’t count on again. Porto must win this game if they want to stay close to Benfica, and I think they will win this match.
