Olympique Marseille is hosting Nimes Olympique at Orange Velodrome in round 20 in the French Ligue 1.
Marseille is not playing well dating back to December, and the Christmas break didn’t help. Marseille has won only 1 of their last 6 games, and they have lost in the French super Cup to PSG earlier this week. In their last Ligue 1 game, Marseille was playing against Dijon on the road, and they were the better team with 59% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 79% of the correct passes. Despite creating a few good chances, Marseille couldn’t finish any of them, and this game ended in a 0-0 draw. Marseille has dropped in the standings, and they are now in 6th place with 32 points, 25 scored goals, and 16 conceded goals so far. Thauvin has been Marseille’s best player with 6 goals and 7 assists, while Payet, Germain, and Benedetto added 3 goals each. Amavi, Luis, and Mandanada are all injured for Marseille at the moment. Marseille hasn’t had a lot of time to rest this week, and they have had a solid game against PSG, but they need to get back n the winning track if they want to stay close to the Champions League spot.
Nimes is the weakest team in the league this season, by far, and they are in the last place with 12 points, 14 scored goals, and massive 40 conceded goals, the most in Ligue 1. Nimes has won only 1 of their last 13 games while losing 11 of said 13 games, and they are conceding goals left and right. Ferhat and Ripart are the leading goalscorers for Nimes with 3 goals each, while Ferhat also added 3 assists. Depress, Martinez, Landre, Sarr, and Dias are injured, while Fomba is still questionable. Nimes was hosting Lille in their last Ligue 1 game, and they haven’t had a good game. Nimes has had 48% of ball possession, 0 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 0 big chances created, and 80% of accurate passes. Nimes was actually playing decent soccer on the defensive end, and they have conceded only 1 goal in this game. Nimes has lost this match 0-1. I just don’t think this Nimes team has the quality or depth to compete in this league so far, and I just don’t see them getting out of the relegation zone, or even the relegation playoffs spot.
Marseille has been the dominant team in this matchup, and they have won both of their home games against Marseille. Even with the short rest, Marseille is the better team here, the deeper team, and in better form. I’m taking Marseille at home because I think they will get back on the winning track in this one.
