Liverpool is welcoming Manchester City to Anfield in a derby match of round 23 in the English Premier League.
Liverpool has a lot of injury problems, and because of that their game suffers, on both ends. Liverpool hasn’t won any of their last 4 home games in the EPL while winning only 2 of their last 6 games overall. Despite their bad form, Liverpool is still in the title race, and they are now in 4th place with 40 points, 7 points away from the top of the table. Liverpool has scored 43 goals so far this season, and Salah has scored 15 of those 43 goals, while Mane added 7 goals. Robertson added 5 assists. Van Dijk, Jota, Gomez, Matip, Fabinho, and Mane are all injured, so basically, their whole defense, and some fantastic offensive players, while Keita and Alisson are still questionable on this game. Liverpool was hosting Brighton in their latest EPL game, and they were dominant with 63% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 5 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and a solid 86% of the correct passes. Offensively, Liverpool was dull in this game, while their defense has been solid, except the right side where Alexander-Arnold is playing. Liverpool has conceded a goal in the 56th minute, and they couldn’t get back into the game. Liverpool ended up losing this match 0-1. The title is still within the reach for Liverpool, but I don’t see them getting there because they are far too inconsistent this season.
Manchester City looks stunning this season, and they haven’t lost a game since late November of last year, 20 games in total. With this streak, City has taken over the top, and they are not letting go. Manchester City has 47 points, but their biggest improvement is their defense. Manchester City has conceded only 13 goals so far this season while scoring 39 goals so far. During their last 3 wins, City has scored 8 goals while conceding 0 goals, and that is a tough task to accomplish in the EPL. In their last game against Burnley on the road, as usual, City has had massive 75% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and a high 92% of the correct passes. Manchester City has scored 2 goals in the first half, and they have won this game 0-2. Gundogan and Sterling have each scored 7 goals for Manchester City so far, while Mahrez added 5 goals. De Bruyne has 9 assists. Aguero, Ake, and De Bruyne are all injured for Manchester City. The most impressive this Manchester City has changed is that they don’t just blindly attack anymore, and because of that they will be extremely hard to stop.
When playing at home, Liverpool has not lost to Manchester City in their last 19 games, while City has lost only 1 game on the road so far this season. City is in far better form, but this being a derby match, the form is irrelevant. I’m being drawn towards a draw here, but I think we will see some goals on both sides, and that is what I will take.
