Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are clashing at National Arena in Romania in part of the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.
Atletico Madrid is the best team in Spain so far this season, but they have started slipping lately, and at the wrong time. Atletico Madrid has won only 1 of their last 4 games, and even though they are still in first place with 55 points, Real Madrid is now only 3 points behind them, but the good news is that Atletico Madrid has one game less played. As far as the Champions League goes, Atletico Madrid ended in second place in their group with 9 points, 7 scored goals, and 8 conceded goals. Both their offense and defense were much weaker in the Champions League, but I hope their LaLiga form could transfer to the Champions League. Felix is the leading goalscorer for Atletico in the Champions League with 3 goals, while Correa added 2 assists. Herrera, Carrasco, and Gimenez are all injured, while Tripper is suspended through sports court. Atletico Madrid has conceded only 16 goals in LaLiga this season, and in addition to them being the best defensive team in the league, Atletico is the second-best offensive team with 45 scored goals, and they are the first favorite to win the title.
Chelsea is in great form, and they are playing fast and fun soccer. Since the new coach arrived, Chelsea hasn’t lost a game, and they are back in the Champions League spot race in the EPL. Chelsea was playing against Southampton on the road in the EPL, and they were the better team with 71% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and a solid 85% of the correct passes. After losing 1-0 at halftime, Chelsea was able to tie the score in the 54th minute. Despite all of their chances, Chelsea wasn’t able to score a goal, and this game ended in a 1-1 draw. In the Champions League, Giroud has scored 5 goals for Chelsea, while Werner added 3 goals. Silva and Musonda are both injured for Chelsea. In the group stage of the Champions League, Chelsea was brilliant with 14 scored goals and only 2 conceded goals, and they have won their group with 14 points, only 1 point above Sevilla, but still. There are still a few kinks Chelsea has to figure out in their game, especially in the attacking end, but they look good, they are competitive, and they are constantly improving.
Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have played 7 times against each other, and each team has won 2 games, while 3 games ended in a draw. Chelsea hasn’t lost any of their last 8 games, while Atletico Madrid has slipped up a little bit lately, and I think it could cost them in this game. This game is being played in a neutral venue, but I think this will be a tough game where both teams could cancel each other out, and I’m being drawn towards a draw.
