AS Monaco is hosting Lille OSC at Stade Louis II in a derby match of round 29 in the French Ligue 1.
Monaco is in fantastic form, but their surprising loss in their last Ligue 1 game has set them back a little bit. It didn’t take long for Monaco to get back on winning track, and they did it against Nice in the French Cup last weekend. In the Ligue 1 standings, Monaco is now in 4th place with 55 points, and they are 7 points behind Lille at the top, which could be as little as 4 points after this game. In their last Ligue 1 game, Monaco was playing against Strasbourg on the road, and they were dominant with possession, 63%, but only 1 shot on goal, 7 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 80% of the correct passes. Monaco’s offense failed in this game, and they have conceded a goal in the 91st minute. Monaco has lost this game 1-0. Volland and Ben Yedder have each scored 13 goals for Monaco so far this season, while Golovin added 6 assists. Martins and Pellegri are injured, Geubbels is questionable, while Diatta is suspended because of the yellow cards. Milan is still in the title hunt, and the next few games will be crucial for them, and if Monaco can win those games, I wouldn’t be surprised if they take the title home.
Lille is still going strong, and I bet they are surprised as I am for being at the top of the table in Ligue 1. Lille has 62 points, and they are only 2 points above Lyon and PSG. Scoring 49 goals is a huge accomplishment, but Lille’s defense has been impressive with only 17 conceded goals, and that is the biggest reason they are at the top of the table. Lille is on a 2-game winning streak, and they have also won their French Cup match last weekend. In their last game in Ligue 1, Lille was hosting Marseille, and they were the better team throughout the entire game with 60% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 11 corner kicks, 4 big chances created, and 83% of the correct passes. It took a long time for the first goal to drop, and it was Lille who scored in the 90th, and then again in the 92nd minute. Lille has won this game 2-0. Yilmaz and David have each scored 9 goals for Lille so far this season, while Yazici added 7 goals. Bamba has added 7 assists. Lihadji is the only injured player for Lille and having the depth in their roster is a huge boost for Lille. Winning Ligue 1 would be the ultimate reward for Lille because they have been constantly improving and investing in their team over the last few seasons, and the work is finally paying off.
This could easily be the game that will decide the Ligue 1 winner. If Monaco wins, Lille will most likely lose the first spot this weekend, but if Lille wins, they will stay at the top, and they will be hard to beat. Monaco has lost only 1 home game this season, while Lille has lost only 1 game on the road so far. This will be a fantastic game, and I will certainly watch it, but as far as the betting side goes, I’m taking the goals, on both sides.
