Granada is welcoming Manchester United to Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes in the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals.
Granada might be bad in LaLiga, but they are doing a fantastic job in the Europa League. In the previous stage, Granada has knocked out Molde, but only thanks to an away goal from the second leg. Granada is now on a 3-game losing streak during which they conceded 7 goals while scoring only 2 goals, and their situation looks pretty bad right now. In the LaLiga standings, Granada is in 9th place with 36 points, and it doesn’t look like they will be going to the Europa League next season unless they win it this year of course. Soldado, Suarez, Herrera, and Molina have each scored 2 goals for Granada in the Europa League this season. in their LaLiga game against Villarreal at home this past weekend, Granada has had 44% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 77% of accurate passes. Granada wasn’t playing well in this match, and they ended up losing 0-3. There are a few injuries in Granada at the moment, but even if they didn’t have any injuries, Granada wouldn’t be playing any better, they simply don’t have enough quality.
United has lost only 1 of their last 16 games, and that was against Leicester City in the FA Cup. In their last EPL game, United was hosting Brighton, and they have had 57% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 4 big chances created, and a solid 84% of the correct passes. After losing 0-1 at halftime, United was determined in the second half, and they were able to turn the game around. Manchester United has won this match 2-1. With 60 points, Manchester United is now in 2nd place, but they can still lose it if they slip up along the way. As far as the Europa League goes, United hasn’t been convincing against Milan, but they were able to knock them out with a 0-1 win on the road. Manchester United has gotten into the Europa League by ending the Champions League group stage in third place, and Fernandes has scored 2 goals for them so far. Jones, Martial, Telles, Lindelof, and Bailly are all injured for United, and they will most likely miss this game. With a nice EPL win under their belt, United is in a good mood, and they are looking well, and luckily for them, Granada is not the team that can create a lot of chances, which will certainly help United a lot.
Granada and United have never played against each other, but it’s quite simple here. I will go with United because they are the better team here, in better form, and they are playing better soccer overall.
