AS Monaco is hosting Olympique Lyonnais in a derby match of round 35 in the French Ligue 1.
Monaco has been the best team alongside Lille in Ligue 1 this season, and they are still in the title race with only 2 points less than Lille at the top. Monaco is in 3rd place with 71 points, and they are on a 7-game winning streak. Monaco also hasn’t conceded a goal in their last 9 games, which is absolutely fantastic. In their last game against Angers on the road, Monaco was the better team with 59% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, 3 big chances created, and 83% of the correct passes. Monaco was trying and trying in this game, but they just couldn’t go through Angers’ defense, until the 79th minute when they finally scored. We didn’t see any more goals, and Monaco has won this match 0-1. Ben Yedder now has 18 goals to his name this season, while Volland added 15 goals. Golovin has 8 assists. Martins, Diop, Golovin, and Jovetic are injured, and they will most likely miss this game. Monaco is in excellent form, and by looking at their schedule, Monaco could actually stay unbeaten for the rest of the season, and all they need is for Lille and PSG to slip up. If Monaco were to win the title this season, it would be well deserved.
Lyon’s form is in a free-fall, and they have lost their last 2 games, one of which was against Monaco in the French Cup a couple of weeks ago. In their last game against Lille, Lyon needed a win to stay in the title race, but they failed to do that. Lyon has had 46% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 80% of the correct passes. Lyon has actually had a 2-0 lead, but then they got sloppy, and Lille has completely turned this game around with 3 unanswered goals. Lyon ended up losing this match 2-3. At the moment, Lyon is now in 4th place with 67 points, and I think they will need to be happy with their Europa League spot for next season. Depay is Lyon’s best player with 18 goals and 8 assists, while Ekambi added 12 goals, and Kadewere has 10 goals. There are no injuries or suspension in Lyon at this time. Earlier this season, Lyon was unbeatable, and they were at the top of the table with a nice advantage, but 2 or 3 sloppy games, and Lyon has sunk to 4th place. Overall, this season could have been a lot better, but it could have been a lot worse as well.
Monaco has a fantastic home record this season, but Lyon has been great on the road. Monaco is in better form, and they are determined to stay that way and to keep their chances to win the title alive, and for that reason alone, I will side with Monaco at home.
