Italy and Spain are clashing at Wembley Stadium in the Semifinals or the Euro Cup 2021. Italy has been brilliant so far in this tournament, and they have beaten Belgium in the Quarterfinals a few days ago. Spain has won 3 of their 5 games in this tournament, but their last two were after overtime and penalty shootout.
Italy has won all of their games in this tournament, and they have conceded only 2 goals while doing it. In their last game against Belgium, Italy has had 54% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 88% of the correct passes. With 2 fantastic goals in the first half, and 1 conceded goal, Italy has won this game 1-2, but it could have been more if the Italians were just a bit more focused. Italy’s defense looked well in this game, but Italy has lost Spinazzola for the rest of the tournament after he got injured in this game, which is a shame because he was one of their best players. Pessina, Locatelli, Immobile, and Insigne have each scored 2 goals for Italy so far, while Verratti added 2 assists. With Belgium out of the tournament, Italy is the biggest favorite to win it, and they deserve it. Italy is playing the best soccer, they have shown the most on both ends, and they have a lot of depth to compete with the best teams.
Spain has had 2 tough games in the Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals, but they got really lucky in both of those games. First, Spain knocked out Croatia after overtime, while in the Quarterfinals Spain knocked out Switzerland after a penalty shootout. Spain was dominant in that match with 72% of ball possession, 10 shots on goal, 13 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and a high 91% of the correct passes. The regular time ended in a 1-1 draw despite Spain having an extra player for the last 15 minutes, and the entire overtime. In the penalty shootout, Spain was focused, and they have won this match. Torres, Sarabia, and Morata are the leading goalscorers for Spain with 2 goals each, but Sarabia got injured and he will miss this game. Dani Olmo and Gerard Moreno added 2 assists each. Spain is still struggling in the attacking end, and despite all of their dominance in most of their games, Spain takes a lot of chances to score a goal, and with this being the semifinals, I’m not sure if they are good enough to get through.
Italy is on a fantastic run of 32 games without a loss, while Spain hasn’t lost any of their last 12 games. The trends are even in this matchup, and both teams are in good form, but I gotta give the advantage to Italy because they are in better form in the attacking end, and they play better soccer overall. I see Italy advancing to the finals.
