Brazil and Egypt are clashing at Saitama Stadium 2002 in the Quarterfinals of the Olympics 2021 soccer tournament. Brazil is in great form, and they are undefeated in their last 4 games while winning 2 of their 3 group stage games. Egypt advanced to the knockouts from the 2nd spot, but they needed a good game in the last round of the group stage to accomplish that.
Brazil has scored 7 goals in 3 games so far in this tournament, and Richarlison has been their best player with 5 scored goals, while Paulinho and Cunha added 1 goal each. Brazil was playing against Saudi Arabia in their last game, and they needed a win to secure the top spot in their group. Brazil was the better team with 51% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 11 corner kicks, 6 big chances created, and 86% of the correct passes. Brazil got ahead early, in the 14th minute, but that was expected, what wasn’t expected was Saudi Arabia coming back just 13 minutes later. Brazil took full control in the second half, and with 2 more scored goals, Brazil has won this match 1-3. Defensively, Brazil has shown some flaws, and that is understandable because they were never a consistent defensive team. Brazil definitely has the quality to win this tournament, but they are not the best team here in my opinion, and I’m not sure they have what it takes to win it all.
The only way Egypt was getting through the group stage was by winning their last game, and they did it. Egypt was playing against Australia in that game, and they were the better team with 51% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 79% of the correct passes. Egypt scored a goal in each half, while being solid on the defensive end, and they have won that match 0-2. Mohamed and Hamdi have each scored 1 goal for Egypt so far in this tournament. Egypt isn’t an overly good team, and honestly, I think they got lucky to advance past the group stage, but they got the job done. This was a tough group for Egypt and advancing past it was a huge success for them, but I don’t think they can get further than this. Egypt will probably defend well up until a point when Brazil decides to step on the gas, and that is when Egypt will start losing focus.
These two teams have met back in 2012, and Brazil has won that match 3-2. Brazil is the better team here, they are scoring more goals, and they have a player who is scoring a ton of goals. I’m taking Brazil here.
