Valencia vs. Getafe 8/13/21 LaLiga Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Valencia is welcoming Getafe to Mestalla in round 1 of the Spanish LaLiga. I think Valencia is improving nicely, and their rebuild is working, but we are yet to see if Valencia can stay consistent throughout the season. Getafe is undefeated in their last 9 games while winning 7 of those 9 games.

Valencia was also able to keep their best players in the offseason, and the biggest name they lost was Kevin Gameiro who hasn’t had a big impact last season. Valencia has played 7 preseason games, and they have won 5 of those 7 games while losing 2 games. Offensively, Valencia has done well, and they have scored at least 1 goal in 6 of those 7 games. The last season was decent for Valencia, and even though they weren’t expecting to qualify for Europe, they were close for most of the season. Valencia has ended in 13^th place with 43 points. Valencia’s offense was also good last season with 50 scored goals, but their defense was suffering a lot with 53 conceded goals. The good news for Valencia is their schedule is on the lighter side for the first 4 games, and the better they start the season, the easier it will be for them to stay close to the Europa League spots.

Getafe started last season well, but as the season went on, Getafe sunk further and further from the top in LaLiga. With 38 points, only 28 scored goals, and 43 conceded goals, Getafe ended the season in 15^th place, only 4 points above the relegation zone. Getafe was active in the transfer market in the offseason, and they have signed Alena permanently, Ramirez from Huesca, and Vitolo from Atletico Madrid, and we can see by their preseason results it has done them some good. Getafe hasn’t lost a single friendly game in the preseason, and they have scored 9 goals in 7 games, but more importantly, Getafe has kept 6 clean sheets, while conceding only 1 goal in those 7 games. Let’s be clear, Getafe is far from the Europa League despite having a good preseason, but they are a good team that doesn’t give up, and they will be a threat to everyone in LaLiga. If Getafe wants to be better this season, they will need more offense, and with Sandro in the lineup, Getafe should be better.

Both teams are in solid form, and I think this will be a fun match. The trends are slightly on Valencia’s side, and they haven’t lost against Getafe in their last 4 home games. Honestly, this could go either way and for that reason, I will take the goals in this one.
