Inter vs. Genoa 8/21/21 Serie A Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Inter is welcoming Genoa to Giuseppe Meazza in round 1 of the Italian Serie A. Inter is in a good form, they are on a 7-game winning streak, and they are the defending Champions. Genoa has exceeded expectations last season, and even though they are in decent form right now, I’m not sure they can repeat the result from last season.

As I’ve mentioned, Inter is in great form, and they have been active on the market, but it won’t be easy replacing Lukaku as their star striker. Sure, Inter has signed a few good players like Dzeko, Calhanoglu, and Dumfries, but they have sold Lukaku, and Hakimi, and there are rumors Martinez is also leaving. Martinez and Eriksen are still injured, and they will miss this game. In their 6 preseason games, Inter has 6 wins, and they have scored at least 2 goals in each of those games, 25 goals in total. The even better news is that Inter has conceded only 1 goal in the entire preseason, and that was in their first game. Inter is also starting this season with a new head coach, Simone Inzaghi, who was in charge of Lazio for the last few seasons, and he has had a lot of success. As the reigning champion, Inter has a tough task ahead of them, but they are a solid team that can beat anyone.

Genoa has played only 2 preseason games and 1 Coppa Italia game. Genoa has won 2 of those 3 games while losing 1 game. After successfully ending last season in 11^th place, far away from the relegation zone, Genoa will try to repeat that success this season as well, but I’m not sure they have the quality to do so. Genoa has signed a lot of players, but none that can replace Shomurodov who left for Roma. Behrami and Bani are suspended, while there are no other injuries in Genoa. When we take a look at Genoa’s roster, they have a lot of depth, they have some solid players, and I don’t think Genoa will have trouble securing their spot in Serie A for next season as well, but I don’t think we can expect much more from them.

Genoa hasn’t won any of their last 6 games against Inter, while Inter hasn’t lost any of their last 18 home games against Genoa. Inter has also won 11 home games in a row. Inter is a much better team here, and they are in much better form on both ends. There is no other option but to side with Inter at home.
