FC Augsburg is hosting Bayer Leverkusen at WWK ARENA in round 3 of the German Bundesliga. Dating back to last season, Augsburg is struggling on both ends, and they haven’t won any of their first two games of the season. Leverkusen has been doing surprisingly well this season in my opinion, and they are undefeated in their last 3 games.
Augsburg got lucky last season, and they have escaped relegation by only 3 points. Defensively, Augsburg hasn’t been the worst team last season, but their offense just hasn’t been good enough. So far this season, Augsburg hasn’t scored a single goal, but they have conceded 4. In their game against Eintracht on the road last weekend, Augsburg has had only 38% of ball possession, 0 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, 0 big chances created, and only 58% of the correct passes. The only good thing for Augsburg in this game was their defense, and this match has ended in a 0-0 draw. This will be another tough season for Augsburg, and if they want to avoid the relegation, they will need a lot more offense, and even more if they don’t improve their defense.
Leverkusen has had an almost perfect start of this season, and they are now in 3rd place with 4 points, 5 scored goals, and 1 conceded goal. In their last game against Borussia M’gladbach at home, Leverkusen was solid with 47% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 83% of the correct passes. Everything Leverkusen did in the attacking end was good, and they have scored 2 goals in each half, but if their goalkeeper hasn’t saved a penalty kick in the 43rd minute, this game could have ended differently. The final score of this match was 4-0 in favor of Leverkusen. Diaby has scored 2 goals for Leverkusen so far this season, while Schick, Bakker, and Amiri added 1 goal each. Bellarabi, Fosu-Mensah, and Tapsoba are all injured, and they will most likely miss this game. Despite losing some of their best players in the offseason, Leverkusen has responded well to the new coach’s ideas and to the new players joining the team, I just hope they can keep it up.
Augsburg has won only 1 game against Leverkusen in the past and considering their form, I don’t think they will win this one. We are getting Leverkusen at a fantastic price on the road, and I will take it.
