Real Sociedad is welcoming Levante to Real Arena in round 3 of the Spanish LaLiga. Real Sociedad might have been destroyed by Barcelona in round 1, but they got back on track last weekend at home. Levante is struggling massively, and they have won only 1 of their last 8 games, while not winning any of their last 3 games.
Real Sociedad is a great team, they have a lot of talent, and they can play fantastic soccer, especially in the attacking end. Real Sociedad needed a win last week against Rayo Vallecano, and they got it. Sociedad was dominant in that game with 61% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and a solid 84% of the correct passes. It took a while for Sociedad to score a goal, but they did in the 68th minute from the penalty spot, and they have won this match 1-0. Oyarzabal is the leading goalscorer for Sociedad with 2 goals. Fernandez, Monreal, Salguero, Ryan, and Illarramendi are all injured. These injuries are the biggest problem for Sociedad, and once some of these players are finally ready to play, Sociedad will have much more depth, and they will need it once the Europa League starts.
Levante hasn’t lost any of their first two games so far this season, but they also haven’t won any. As bad as Levante was on the defensive end, they were able to keep up in the attacking end. Levante has scored and conceded 4 goals. Pier, Morales, Marti, and Campana have each scored 1 goal for Sociedad so far this season. Melero has added 2 assists. Postigo, Gomez, and Soldado are all injured. In their game against Real Madrid at home, last weekend and they have had 39% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 81% of the correct passes. Levante was losing at halftime, but they turned the score around by the 57th minute. In the 73rd minute, Levante conceded a goal, and the score was now 2-2, but in the 79th minute, Levante scored one more time and they were ahead once again. Unfortunately for Levante, they conceded another goal in the 85th minute, and the final score of this match was 3-3. Levante also conceded a red card in this match, and Fernandez is now suspended because of it. Levante stayed outside the relegation zone last season, and I think they will do the same this season, but their defense must be better.
The trends are on Levante’s side, but Sociedad is in better form, and they are the better team overall. I think this will be a good game, and I think we will see goals because Levante’s defense is terrible. I’m taking the over.
