Honduras and the United States face off on Wednesday in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano. These two teams faced off in June of 2021 and it was the United States that came away with the victory.
The United States can’t be happy having picked up only two points after their first two games of qualifying. In the first game, the USA played to a 0-0 draw against El Salvador, and in the last game it was 1-1 against Canada. In the last game, Brendon Aaronson opened up the scoring in the 55th minute, and they looked in good shape until the defense gave up a goal in the 62nd minute, and that led to the draw. One problem heading into this game is they are sending Weston McKennie back to Juventus after a protocol violation. If the United States wants to win, the offense is going to need to find a way to get the offense going.
On the other side of this matchup is Honduras who have also played to back-to-back draws the last couple of games. In the first game, Honduras played to a 1-1 draw against Canada, and in the last game against El Salvador, they played to a 0-0 draw. In that last game, Honduras only had 30 percent of the possession, and they only managed one shot on goal. In the first game, Honduras scored a penalty kick in the 39th minute by Alexander Lopez. Having solid possession for Honduras has been a problem and they need to try to keep the ball away from the United States.
I have faith that the United States can finally figure it out in this game. The United States is going to push numbers forward and do everything in their power to get the three points. Look for the United States to score a goal in the first half, and they will come away with the victory.
