Chelsea vs. Villarreal 8/11/21 UEFA Super Cup Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Chelsea and Villarreal are clashing at Windsor Park in the UEFA Super Cup. Chelsea has done really well in the preseason, and after winning the Champions League last season, their ambitions are high. Villarreal has been struggling in their preseason games, and they haven’t won any of their last 6 friendly games.

Chelsea hasn’t been much active on the market this offseason, and the only notable departure was Giroud who left for Milan. There are some rumors about incoming and outgoing transfers, but the most notable one is the signing of Lukaku from Inter for over 100 million Euros, and that transfer is apparently close to being done. Chelsea has won the Champions League last season, and I gotta say, they deserved it, but they were a bit disappointing in the EPL. Chelsea has ended the season in 4^th place with 67 points, 58 scored goals, and 36 conceded goals. In all of their preseason games, Chelsea has scored at least 1 goal, but they have also conceded at least 1 goal in each game, and they will need to improve their defense as soon as possible. I think Chelsea is a fantastic team, they have a lot of depth, they have great players, and if they sign Lukaku, they will finally have the striker capable of scoring 15+ goals per season, and that is something they really need.

The good news for Villarreal is they were able to keep their head coach who led them to the Europa League title last season, but the even better news is they were able to keep all of their best players, and even add some players that will help them with depth problems. Villarreal has signed Foyth from Tottenham, Dia from Reims, and Morlanes from Almeria, and even though you maybe haven’t heard of these players, they are high-quality prospects who will certainly help Villarreal to get in the top 4 in LaLiga this season. After winning the Europa League last season, Villarreal will be playing in the Champions League this season, and they were lucky because they ended the season in 7^th place in LaLiga, which wasn’t enough for any of the European competitions. Offensively, Villarreal has done really well last season with 60 scored goals, but they will need to improve their defense, especially after a bad preseason. Villarreal has conceded at least 1 goal in 5 of their 6 preseason games, but they have also scored in 5 of those 6 games. Same as Chelsea, Villarreal is a good and talented team, they have fantastic players, but they will need to play a hell of a game if they want to win this trophy.

These two teams have never met in the past, but neither team is in great form, especially Villarreal. Neither defense is playing on a high level at the moment, and for that reason, I see goals in this game, but I think Chelsea will win this game and their first trophy of the season.
