KRC Genk is welcoming KV Oostende to Luminus Arena in round 2 of the Belgian Pro League. Genk has only 1 win in their last 6 games, and in addition to losing the Super Cup, Genk has failed to win their season opener. Oostende is also in terrible form, and they have won only 1 of their last 8 games.

Genk is one of the best teams in Belgium, that is clear, but their form has been inconsistent lately. The good news for Genk is they have scored in each of their last 8 games, but they have also conceded at least 1 goal in 7 of those 8 games. In their season opener, Genk was playing against Standard on the road, and they were solid with 55% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and a solid 82% of the correct passes. It was a decent game, but we haven’t seen many good chances, at least in the first half. In the second half, Standard got ahead in the 69th minute, but Genk was able to tie the score in the 92nd minute, and this game has ended in a 1-1 draw. Bongonda is now the only goalscorer for Genk with 1 scored goal. Genk still has a couple of games before their Champions League qualifications game, and that is enough time for them to get their game in order.

Oostende hasn’t played a lot of games in the preseason, and the 2 they have played weren’t good for them. Oostende is a solid team, not one of the top teams, but still, and they ended last season in 5th place, just outside the Championship round. In their first game of the season against Sporting Charleroi, Oostende has had 54% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks, 0 big chances created, and 76% of the correct passes. Oostende was decent in the attacking end, they have created a few good chances, but their defense was terrible. Oostende has conceded 1 goal in the first half and 2 more goals in the second half, and they ended up losing this game 0-3. Oostende is now in the last place in the standings, but the season has only just begun and there is plenty of time before they can start panicking. Oostende has also failed to qualify for the Conference League, and the Pro League and Belgian Cup will be the only two competitions they will play in this season.

When playing at home, Genk hasn’t lost to Oostende in their last 4 games, and the trends are on their side. Genk is the better team here, but both teams are in bad form. We usually see a lot of goals when these two teams meet, and I expect the same here.
