Netherlands is hosting Ukraine at Johan Cruijff Arena in round 1 of Group C in the Eur Cup 2021. Netherlands has lost only 1 of their last 10 games, but they are playing incredibly sloppy soccer. Ukraine is constantly improving, and they are now in good form with 6 games without a loss.

Netherlands is in decent form, but the teams they have beaten in their last 4 games are Latvia, Gibraltar, and Georgia, and those are not good teams. Netherlands has qualified for the Euro Cup from the second spot in their group, but they have scored a lot of goals. Netherlands does have a good roster, there is no doubt about that, but their coach is constantly making weird decisions, and it will cost them a lot in this competition. In their last game against Georgia, Netherlands has had 58% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, and 8 corner kicks. Netherlands was dominant in this game, and they have won 3-0. Netherlands actually got lucky in this Euro Cup, and they have gotten an easier group, but I’m just not sure they can end at the top of it.

Ukraine has won their last 2 friendly games, and they haven’t conceded a single goal during this streak. In their last game against Cyprus, Ukraine has had 68% of ball possession, massive 12 shots on goal, and 5 corner kicks. With 2 scored goals in each half, Ukraine has won this match 4-0. Ukraine is led by Shevchenko, and he is doing an amazing job as the head coach, but Ukraine is also a well-balanced team with some solid players both in the attacking and defensive end. Ukraine was outstanding in the Euro Cup qualifications where they won the top spot alongside 17 scored goals and only 4 conceded goals, and they topped Portugal in that group. In the World Cup qualifications, Ukraine has started slowing with 3 draws in a row, but they are in second place right now, and things are looking well for them. The expectations are not high for Ukraine in this tournament, but if they start well that will certainly change. I think Ukraine is good enough to surprise us in this group, and I for one would love to see that.

Netherlands and Ukraine have played only twice against each other, and that was over 10 years ago. Both teams are coming into this game in solid form, but I wouldn’t rely on Netherlands playing well enough to win here. I’m taking the draw.
