Paraguay vs. Venezuela 9/9/21 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifications Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Paraguay and Venezuela face off on Thursday in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying game at. Estadio Defensores del Chaco. These two teams last faced off in October of 2020 and Paraguay came away with the 1-0 victory. 

Paraguay comes into this game sitting in 6th place in the standings having picked up eight points so far. Paraguay has struggled so far coming into this game with their last win coming all the way back in June. Two games ago against Ecuador, the offense struggled scoring zero goals while they allowed two goals to go in the back of the net. In the last game against Colombia, they played to a 1-1 draw. Paraguay actually opened up the scoring in the 40th minute with a goal by Antonio Sanabria. In the second half Paraguay made a few crucial mistakes including allowing a penalty kick. Paraguay allowed 20 shots with seven shots on goal. In this game, Paraguay needs the defense to be a lot better. 

On the other side of this matchup is Venezuela who sits in last place in the standings having picked up 10 points. Venezuela is struggling coming into this game and their last win came all the way back in November of 2020. The biggest issue for this Venezuela team has been with their offense and over their last three games, they have scored only one goal. Against Peru in the last game, they didn’t play awful, but they couldn’t get any offense going. One issue was a red card picked up by Tomas Rincon in the 38th minute which means he will miss this game. 

Venezuela’s offense is a problem, and they aren’t going to put a goal in the back of the net in this game. I don’t think Paraguay’s offense is going to be elite, but they are going to need enough to get the job done. Paraguay is going to score at least a goal, and they will win this game on the money line.
