Paris Saint-Germain vs. Montpellier 9/25/21 Ligue 1 Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

PSG’s defense is far from good, but luckily for them, PSG has the offense to compensate. PSG has scored 20 goals so far this season, and Mbappe is their leading goalscorer with 5 goals and 4 assists. Icardi, Herrera, and Hakimi have each added 3 goals. Ramos, Veratti, and Messi are all injured, but Messi might be ready for this game, although I wouldn’t expect him to play a lot ahead of the Champions League game next week. PSG was playing against Metz earlier this week, and they were the dominant team with 74% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and a high 90% of the correct passes. Despite all the dominance, PSG has to wait until the last minute for the game to score a winning goal, and they have won this game 1-2. Their Champions League game will be hard next week as they are playing against Manchester City, and every PSG player will need to be at their best.

Montpellier has been outstanding in the attacking end with impressive 15 scored goals, but their defense has been really bad with 13 conceded goals. Montpellier is now in 10^th place with 9 points. In their last 3 games, Montpellier is undefeated, but they have only 1 win and 2 draws. Germain and Laborde have each scored 3 goals for Montpellier so far this season, while Savanier has added 4 assists. Mendes and Tamas are injured, while Oyongo, Sakho, and Ferri are still questionable. Montpellier was playing against Bordeaux at home in their last game, and they have had 55% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 84% of the correct passes. Montpellier was leading in this game, then they were losing, then again leading, but the final score was 3-3. I know it’s only the start of the season, but Montpellier is looking well, however, I don’t see them getting anywhere near the Europa League, and I honestly think this 10^th place is their maximum.

Montpellier hasn’t won any of their last 5 games against PSG, while PSG has won their last 5 home games in a row, and they haven’t lost any of their last 8 games overall. It’s no secret PSG is the better team here, but with a big Champions League game ahead, I think some player might be rested. I will take the goals in this one.
