Sampdoria is welcoming Lazio to Luigi Ferraris in round 16 of the Italian Serie A. Sampdoria has had a few solid results lately, but they have won only 2 of their last 6 games. Lazio might be great in the attacking end, but their defense is horrible, and it has already cost them a lot of points this season.
Sampdoria is in low 15th place right now, they have scored 21 goals while conceding 29 goals, and they have 15 points. In their last game against Fiorentina, Sampdoria has had 40% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 77% of the correct passes. Sampdoria started this game great, they have scored in the 15th minute, but by halftime, Sampdoria has conceded 3 goals and it was game over for them. The final score was 3-1 in favor of Fiorentina. Candreva has been in solid form for Sampdoria, and he has scored 6 goals so far. I mean, Sampdoria is good enough to stay outside the relegation zone, but that is all we can expect from them this season, and I think they know that as well.
Lazio is in decent form, but as I’ve mentioned, Lazio’s defense is just terrible, and for the team that is expecting to be in the top 4, that is not a good thing. Lazio has conceded 29 goals in 15 games, and they have also scored 29 goals. Lazio was hosting Udinese in their last Serie A game, and they were the better team with 62% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 87% of the correct passes. I have gotta say, this was an exciting game with a lot of goals, a lot of cards, and a lot of great chances. Lazio was losing 1-3 in the 44th minute, they tied the score in the 56th minute, then Lazio scored another goal in the 79th minute, but Udinese has tied the score in the 99th minute. The final result of this game was 4-4. Patric is suspended because of the red card, and there are no other injuries. Immobile has scored 11 goals for Lazio so far, while Pedro added 5 goals. Lazio has a solid offense, more than solid, but their defense needs a lot of work if they want to climb the standings, and I don’t think that will happen without signing some new players in January.
The trends are on Lazio’s side in this matchup, but I’m not sure I’m willing to bet my money on them in this game. Sampdoria can be tricky, especially at home, which is why I’m taking goals in this one.
