Spain is hosting Sweden at Estadio de la Cartuja in round 1 of Group E in the Euro Cup 2021. Spain is now undefeated in their last 7 games, but they also have only 3 wins during that stretch. Sweden has continued their good form from the World Cup qualifications, and they are now on a 5-game winning streak.

Spain is one of the best teams in the world, but they have been struggling with scoring goals lately, and there are no players from Real Madrid in Spain’s roster for this tournament. Even without Real’s players, Spain is an incredibly talented team with Moreno, Traore, and Morata at the top, Pedri, Thiago, Olmo, and Rodri in midfield, and Laporte, Garcia, and Torres on the defensive end. As far as their goalkeeper goes, De Gea is still number one, but he wasn’t playing in United a lot lately, and that could be a problem for Spain. In their only friendly game before this tournament, Spain was playing against Portugal, and that game has ended in a 0-0 as neither team was willing to take a risk. Busquets and Llorente are injured, but Spain has more than good substitutions to replace them. Spain will win this group in my opinion, but they will need to score more goals in the next stage if they want to get further.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, Sweden is on a 5-game winning streak, and even though those wins were against some of the weakest teams in Europe, Sweden’s confidence is still high. In their last game against Armenia, Sweden was the dominant team with 65% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, and 10 corner kicks, and they have deservedly won that game 3-1. Kulusevski and Forsberg are Sweden’s best players, and in the absence of Ibrahimovic, they will be leading the charge. As far as their defensive end goes, Sweden has Lindelof, a player who had a great season with Manchester United, and a few more solid players who will support him. Overall, Swede is not a bad team, and I think we will see them in the World Cup next year, but Sweden will miss Ibrahimovic’s leadership in this tournament, and that will make their journey harder. Svanberg and Kulusevski are also still questionable for this game, and that will be another big problem for Sweden. I think Sweden is good enough to get to second place or be among the best third-placed teams, but they will need to keep their streak alive.

Spain hasn’t lost any of their last 12 home games, and they are playing at home in this match. Spain is the better team, with better players, and they are playing better soccer overall. I will take Spain at home.
