The United States and Costa Rica face off on Wednesday night in a CONCACAF world cup qualifier at Lower.com Field. When these two teams faced off in June of 2021, the United States won 4-0.
The United States currently sits in second place in the standings having picked up eight points. They have been a little inconsistent this season, and they are coming off a 1-0 loss against Panama. The United States had five shots, but none went on goal, and that led to the defeat. Two games ago, the United States beat Jamaica 2-0 but neither of those goals came in the first half. In that game against Jamaica, Ricardo Pepi was the difference maker scoring two goals, and in this game, they need the offense to be better and put more scoring chances on goal. The USA is going to be in some major trouble if they can’t pick up three points in this game.
On the other side of this matchup is Costa Rica who currently sits in 5th place having picked up six points. Costa Rica has also been inconsistent, but they are coming off a big victory in the last game against El Salvador. They fell behind in the 12th minute, but they made a big comeback scoring goals in the 52nd and 58th minute, to pick up the three points. They had five shots on goal and 54 percent of the possession. Costa Rica has picked up at least a point in each of the last three games.
The United States offense hasn’t been all that impressive, and I expect Costa Rica is going to really focus on their defense in this game. This feels like a 1-0 or 1-1 type of game, and the under is going to cash. I don’t trust the United States to win this game, especially with the price that has to be laid to bet it.
