RC Lens is hosting Olympique de Marseille at Stade Bollaert-Delelis in round 22 of the French Ligue 1. Lens has been in solid form as of late, they are playing well defensively, and they are climbing the standings. Marseille is now in 3rd place because of their draw last weekend, but they are still the best defensive team in the league.

Lens has won their last 3 games in a row, and that has got them all the way to 7th place in the Ligue 1 standings. With 29 conceded goals, Lens is decent on the defensive end, but their offense has been performing really well with 36 scored goals. Kalimuendo and Fofana have each scored 6 goals for Lens so far, while Clauss added 8 assists. There are no injured players for Lens, but they have a few players playing in the African Cup of Nations. In their last game, Lens was playing against a tricky Saint-Etienne on the road, and they were able to get a nice 1-2 win in that game. Lens will stay far away from the relegation zone this season, but I’m not sure they have what it takes to reach the Europa League, but if they do, it will be nice to see them there.

Marseille has conceded only 16 goals so far this season, and as I’ve mentioned, they are the best defensive team in the league. Last weekend, Marseille was playing against Lille at home, and as expected, that was a tough game that ended in a 1- draw. because of that draw, Marseille has dropped to 3rd place, but they are only 2 points away from 2nd place. Marseille’s form has been good, and they are now undefeated in their last 7 games, but they have been inconsistent when it comes to scoring goals as of late. Payet is still the leading goalscorer for Marseille with 7 goals and 7 assists, while Under added 6 goals. The latest signing for Marseille was Kolasinac, former Arsenal’s left-back, but he is still injured. Marseille has a couple of easier games in Ligue 1 after this, but this game will be hard for them. As the best defensive team in the league, Marseille doesn’t have to be scared of anyone, even a solid offensive team like Lens, but they do need to work on their offense and get back to scoring goals.

Lens has been outstanding at home so far this season, and they have only 1 loss. Lens is also on a nice winning streak, they haven’t lost any of their last 7 home games, and they are facing a team in a bit of a slump in the attacking end. I see a tough game with a lot of fouls, and for that reason, I will take the draw.
