Chile vs. Uruguay 3/29/22 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifications Soccer Pick, Predictions, and Odds

Chile is hosting Uruguay at San Carlos de Apoquindo in round 18 of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifications. Chile needs a win here, but they also need for Peru and Colombia not to win their games, and only then they will get to the spot for the additional qualifications. Uruguay is safe, they will qualify for the World Cup, but with a win, they could still get to 3^rd place, not that it matters.

Chile has had a hard last game, against Brazil, and they got destroyed 4-0 on the road. Unfortunately for Chile, they can no longer directly qualify for the World Cup, but they still have a chance at reaching that 5^th place that would take them to the additional qualifications. Chile’s offense has been solid, far from good enough, but decent, and they have scored 19 goals in 17 games. Their defense has also been decent with 24 conceded goals. Sanchez is the leading goalscorer for Chile with 5 goals. This is the time for Chile to play their best game yet, and even though they must, it doesn’t mean they will.

Uruguay was in big danger of not going to the World Cup, but after they made a coaching change, their game has improved, and they went on a 3-game winning streak. Thanks to those 9 points from their last 3 games, Uruguay has climbed to 4^th place, and they will be going straight to the World Cup. Uruguay’s offense has been better than Chile’s, but still not good enough. Of the 20 goals Uruguay has scored, Suarez has scored 7, while De Arrascaeta has added 5 goals. Uruguay’s defense on the other hand has improved a lot since the coaching change, and they have kept 2 clean sheets in their last 3 games. Uruguay is one of the top teams in South America, at least they used to be, but I guess their old coach wasn’t good enough anymore to lead this team, and it was the right decision to replace him. Now that they have qualified, the pressure off of Uruguay, they don’t need anything from this game, and they simply enjoy it.

Chile desperately needs the win here, but not only that, they need favorable results from some other games. With Uruguay not needing anything from this game, this is the chance for Chile, and I will put my faith in them.
