Manchester City is hosting Newcastle United at Etihad Stadium in round 36 of the English Premier League. City got knocked out of the Champions League, but they could still win the EPL this season. Newcastle is on an amazing run, they have secured their EPL spot, and they will be even better next season.
City was on a 4-game winning streak, but that loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League has really killed the mood in City. In the EPL, City is now in 2nd place, but with the same number of points, and a game less played than Liverpool has. The good news for City is that Liverpool tied in their game against Tottenham, and this is the chance for Manchester City to gain some distance between them. Mahrez and De Bruyne are leading goalscorers for City with 11 goals each, while Sterling has added 10 goals. Jesus has 8 assists. City is a club without a proper striker, but that could soon end because the rumors are City is signing Haaland, and that is massive for them. I think City will win the EPL because Liverpool has a harder schedule, but they gotta start with this game.
Not only Newcastle has gotten out of the relegation zone, but they have also climbed the standings all the way to 13th place with 43 points. Newcastle has also been scoring quite a bit of goal, while their defense has gained some stability. Wilson has scored 6 goals for Newcastle so far, while Saint-Maximin has added 5 goals and 4 assists. There are a few injured players in Newcastle right now. Now that the pressure is off, Newcastle can play freely, and they are already preparing for next season when they will be fighting for the European spots. With the terrible way they have started the season, Newcastle has bounced back quite nicely, and I’m happy for them and the fact they will be staying in the EPL.
City has been dominant in this matchup in the past, but I think Newcastle might score a goal here because City is a bit shaken after their loss in the Champions League. City has to win this game, and if they do I think the title will be in their pocket.
