Bayer Leverkusen is hosting SC Freiburg at BayArena in round 34 of the German Bundesliga. Leverkusen doesn’t need anything from this game, they have secured the Champions League spot, and there is no pressure here. Freiburg is still in play for that Champions League spot, but with a loss here, they could even lose the Europa League spot.
Leverkusen is now on a 3-game winning streak, and that was enough for them to stay in 3rd place, and to qualify for the Champions League. During this 3-game winning streak, Leverkusen has scored 10 goals, and they have also kept one clean sheet. With 78 scored goals, Leverkusen is one of the best offensive teams in the league, but their defense has to get better. Leverkusen’s defense is inconsistent, they are not defending well, and they have conceded 46 goals so far this season. Some important players are injured for Leverkusen, but the season is over, and they have time to recover. Schick is the leading goalscorer for Leverkusen with 24 goals. Overall, I think this has been a pretty good season for Leverkusen, they could have done a bit more in Europe, but qualifying for the Champions League is a nice accomplishment for this team.
Freiburg has dug a hole for themselves last week when they lost o Union Berlin at home, and now they need a win here to fend them off and to have a shot at the Champions League. Freiburg is now in 5th place with 55 points, and the only way they are getting to the Champions League is if they win this game and if Leipzig losses in their game. Freiburg has had a great season in my opinion, they have shown us they can fight with the big dogs, and if they are able to keep all of their players, and sign a few new ones, Freiburg will be fighting for the top 4 next season. Grifo has scored 9 goals for Freiburg so far, while Holer has scored 7 goals. Freiburg unfortunately doesn’t have a striker capable of scoring a lot of goals, but that is ok because that is not their style anyway. Freiburg also has a few injuries. If Freiburg gets the win here, it won’t mean much if Leipzig gets their win, but at least they will be in good form for the DFB Pokal finals next week.
I think this will be a very fun and open game with a ton of shots and chances. Leverkusen doesn’t need anything here, but I’m sure they want to win this game for their fans. Freiburg needs the win, and they are good enough to get it.
