Stade Rennais is welcoming Olympique de Marseille to Roazhon Park in round 37 of the French Ligue 1. Rennais could still qualify for the Champions League, but they need to beat Marseille here, and they are definitely good enough to do it. Marseille will be missing their best player in this one, and their form has been sloppy as of late.

Rennais has a fantastic team, they have a lot of quality, but they have also been a bit sloppy lately. Rennais has lost in their last game against Nantes, and that might cost them the Champions League spot. Terrier is the leading goalscorer for Rennais with 21 goals, while Bourigeaud has added 12 assists. Traore has added 10 assists. Rennais has scored a lot of goals this season, 78 to be precise, which is only 3 goals less than might PSG. Defensively, Rennais has also been pretty good, but they have dropped too many points against the smaller teams. I like Rennais, I think they are a fantastic team that is improving constantly, but I’m not sure they can keep all of their best players through the summer.

Marseille is in 2nd place with 68 points, but the pressure on them is strong from Monaco and even Nice who is in 4th place. Marseille’s defense has been one of the best in the league this season with only 36 conceded goals in 36 games, while their offense has done well, but they had to do better. Marseille has scored 59 goals so far, and Payet is their leading goalscorer with 12 goals and 10 assists. The bad news for Marseille is that Payet is injured, and he will most likely miss this game. De La Fuente and Balerdi are also injured. If Marseille will be able to get a positive result from this game, they would most likely qualify for the Champions League without the additional qualifications, and that would have been a massive success for them. Without Payet, Marseille doesn’t really have the source of goals, but someone will need to step up. Marseille is the team that likes a good fight, and they will certainly get one here.

A lot is at stake for both teams here, but Marseille could lose more if they don’t get a positive result from this game. I think this will be a hard battle, and I do expect goals, but I will give this one a shot with cards.
