Lille OSC is hosting Stade Rennais at Stade Pierre Mauroy in round 38 of the French Ligue 1. Lille has had a very disappointing season, they are far away from any of the European competitions, and they will be playing only in Ligue 1 this season. Rennais is one of the best offensive teams in the league, in fact, only PSG has been better, but Rennais still hasn’t qualified for the Champions League.

Lille has been very sloppy this season, they have been inconsistent, and they have won only 2 of their last 8 games. With only 54 points in 37 games, Lille is now in 10th place, and they will most likely end the season in that spit. Overall, Lille was decent defensively, but they have scored only 46 goals so far this season, and that is simply not good enough from the last season’s champions. David is the leading goalscorer for Lille with 15 goals, while Sanches added 5 assists. Xeka is the only injured player for Lille at this time. Lille can’t wait for this season to end, and they will certainly try to regroup in the offseason, but we are yet to see which players will leave, and which players will be signed by Lille.

Rennais has been in pretty good form, and as I’ve mentioned, their offense has been on fire this season. Rennais has scored 80 goals so far, and that is only 5 goals less than PSG scored. Terrier has scored 21 goals for Rennais so far this season, while Bourigeaud added 10 goals and 12 assists. Laborde added 15 goals. Defensively, Rennais has also been excellent with only 38 conceded goals, but they are still not in the Champions League spot. Even if Rennais gets the win here, they need either Monaco or Marseille to lose in their game, which could happen. There are no injuries in Rennais as of right now. Rennais has an incredible team, they have the midfielders capable of playing both ways, and strikers capable of scoring more than 15 goals per season. It’s a shame Rennais couldn’t play more consistently in the first half of the season, but their chances of qualifying for the Champions League are good.

When playing at home, Lille hasn’t lost to Rennais in their last 3 games, but the fact is Lille doesn’t need anything here. Rennais will qualify for the Champions League only with a win here, and they are in better form, and they have the better team overall. I know Rennais is on the road here, but I think they can get the win.
