Liverpool vs. Newcastle United 8/31/22 EPL Soccer Picks, Predictions, Odds

Liverpool and Newcastle United face off on Wednesday in an English Premier League showdown at Anfield. When these two teams faced off on April 30th it was Liverpool that secured the 1-0 victory. 

Liverpool currently sits in 9th place in the standings, having picked up five points. Liverpool got off to a terrible start to the season, but they are coming off a huge win in the last game, and the hope is that they can build on that to turn around the season. Liverpool scored nine goals in the last game against AFC Bournemouth, and even when the game was clearly out of reach, they kept pouring it on. Luis Diaz scored a goal in the 3rd minute and added another in the 85th minute to pace the team. Roberto Firmino also added two goals. Luis Diaz has scored the most goals this season, scoring three goals. Liverpool is banged up right now and will be without Diogo Jota, Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Ibrahima Konate. 

On the other side of this matchup is Newcastle, who currently sit in 7th place in the standings having picked up six points. Newcastle won the first game of the Premier League season and since that point, they have played to three straight draws. In the last game against the Wolves, it was a goal by Allen Saint-Maximin in the 90th minute that allowed them to pick up a point. Newcastle has scored six goals this year, while their defense has given up four goals. Callum Wilson has scored two goals. One big issue for Newcastle heading into this game is they are expected to be without Saint-Maximin, Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson. 

If Newcastle were 100 percent healthy, this might be a different story, but they aren’t, and Liverpool’s offense has a lot of confidence heading into this game. Liverpool might not score nine goals again in this game, but they are going to score three or four goals, and that will be enough to cruise to the victory. Back Liverpool -1.5. I am also throwing a few dollars on Liverpool -2.5.
