Atletico Madrid is hosting Manchester City at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. Atletico is now on a 2-game losing streak, and frankly, they deserved worse after that dreadful performance in the first leg. City has played in a big derby this past weekend against Liverpool, but they were able to beat Atletico in the first leg.

Atletico was on a nice 6-game winning streak, but after losing to Manchester City in the Champions League last week, Atletico has also lost to Mallorca in LaLiga this past weekend. Even though Atletico has lost only 1-0, and some of it we can say was because of the exhaustion, but Atletico is once again struggling with scoring goals, which they will need in this game. It’s likely Atletico will focus on defense once again in the Champions League, but the fact is they need to score a goal if they want to advance. Herrera and Gimenez are both injured, while Carrasco is suspended because of the red card. Griezmann is the leading goalscorer for Atletico with 4 goals and 2 assists. Atletico is a defensive team, we know that but that defense has been full of holes this season, and I don’t think they will advance to the semifinals.

Manchester City on the other hand is now undefeated in their last 9 games, and in that big matchup against Liverpool, City was able to get a draw. it was an exciting match, at least the first half, and since it’s ended in a draw, we will need to wait a little bit longer to see who will win the EPL title. As far as the Champions League goes, Manchester City was dominant in the first leg with 71% of ball possession, 9 corner kicks, 90% of the correct passes, but only 2 shots on goal. City was able to score a goal and win this game 1-0, which might even be enough for them to advance to the semifinals. Mahrez is still the leading goalscorer for City with 6 goals, while Jesus and Sterling have added 3 goals each. Concelo has added 3 assists. Since the knockouts have started, City has been a bit more conservative, and that is good because it’s not all offense at this stage. There aren’t any notable injuries in City right now, and I think they are the biggest favorites to win the Champions League this season.

Last week’s game was the first even between these two teams. Atletico must attack at some point in this game, but I think they will start by defending. I think City will get on the scoreboard here, but with the offense, Atletico has right now, I don’t think they will. This will be a hard game for Atletico, and I honestly don’t see them advancing.
