Bordeaux is welcoming Olympique de Marseille to Matmut Atlantique in round 20 of the French Ligue 1. Bordeaux is terrible, they have been terrible for years now, but this season seems even worse. Marseille is doing well this season, their defense is outstanding, and they can score goals.

Bordeaux is now in low 17th place, which is just outside the relegation zone but only by a point. Offensively, Bordeaux can score, and they are scoring more than a goal per game, but they are conceding over 2 on average, and that is not good. Bordeaux is also on a 2-game losing streak, they got knocked out of the French Cup, and they have quite a few injuries. Elis has been in excellent form for Bordeaux with 14 scored goals, but even that is not enough for better results. Adli has added 5 assists. Bordeaux also has a few players who left for the African Cup of Nations. It’s gonna be another long and hard season for Bordeaux, they will be fighting for their lives, but as we can see from their offense, they have the talent to stay in the league, as long as they can score more than they concede.

Marseille is undefeated in their last 5 games, they are in 3rd place in the Ligue 1 standings, and they are now the best defensive team in the league. Offensively, Marseille can score, but they can do better, and that is something they need to work on. As far as the Conference League goes, Marseille will play against Qarabag in February, and that is the opponent they can bet, that is if they even want to play in that competition. Marseille’s is mostly covid-free, and a couple of players who were in quarantine are still questionable for this game, but everyone else is healthy. Payet is leading Marseille with 7 goals and 5 assists so far this season, but hopefully, he will get more support in the second half of the season. I think Marseille is good enough to stay in the top 3, especially if they can keep playing this well defensively, but the title is already too far away.

Everything points towards Marseille getting the win, and that would be a reasonable pick to make, but the away team hasn’t won this matchup since 2008, and we haven’t seen a lot of goals when Bordeaux is the home team. To me, this game reeks of a draw, and I will take it.
