FC Porto is hosting Olympique Lyonnais at Estadio do Dragao in the first leg of Round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League. Porto is the best team in Portugal, they did well in the Europa League in that playoff round, and they are in good form. Lyon is in decent form, not good, but they are doing well in France, and they have done well in the Europa League.
Porto is undefeated in all competitions since December, which is a run of 18 games, and they have actually won 15 of those 18 games. In the playoff round of the Europa League, Porto has knocked out Lazio by winning the first leg at home and tying the second leg on the road. In the Primeira Liga, Porto is now at the top of the table with 67 points, which is 6 points above Sporting. Martinez has scored 2 goals for Porto in the Europa League so far. Porto’s amazing run and good form will have a huge impact on this game, and the fact that they are playing this first leg at home will be an advantage for them. Porto is a great team, underrated, and I think they will do well here.
Lyon is far away from the team they used to be, and their form is shaky at best. In Ligue 1, Lyon is in 9th place, which is embarrassing for one of the best teams in France, and it doesn’t look like they will be going to the Champions League next season. as far as the Europa League goes, Lyon has done really well in the group stage, they have won the top spot without a loss, but they were playing better back then. Ekambi is the leading goalscorer for Lyon with 6 goals, while Slimani has added 3 goals, but he is no longer at the club. Lyon’s form is not great, they are not scoring a lot, and their defense is not good enough to pick up the slack, and I think it will cost them in this matchup.
When playing at home, Porto has not lost to Lyon in their last 3 games, and Porto is also undefeated in their last 18 games. Everything is going Porto’s way right now, which is why I’m surprised we are getting such a good price on them, which I will take.
