Ghana and Uruguay face off on Saturday in a World Cup Group H soccer showdown at Al Janoub Stadium.
Ghana currently sits in second place in the standings, having picked up three points. In the first game of the World Cup, Ghana was defeated by Portugal 3-2. In the last game against South Korea, Ghana scored three goals, and that was enough to secure a one-goal victory. Mohammed Kudus had a strong game, scoring in the 34th and 68th minutes. Ghana didn’t have any injuries in the last game, and they should have mostly a full squad to pick up from here. Kudus has been the star of the show for Ghana so far in the World Cup, and they need him to have a big game here. Inaki Williams is expected to start again in this game, and he is also going to be key here.
On the other side of this matchup is Uruguay, who sits in 4th place in the group having picked up only one point. Uruguay has been one of the most disappointing teams in all of the World Cup. Uruguay opened up the World Cup with a 2-0 defeat at the hand of Portugal, and in the last game against South Korea, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani have both been awful so far in the tournament, and both players could end up starting this game on the bench. I would expect Uruguay to make plenty of changes heading into this game.
Uruguay knows they need to win this game, but I don’t trust their offense. Ghana on the other hand has found plenty of success scoring heading into this game, but the defense has been an issue. Uruguay is going to struggle again to get the offense going. I do think their defense will be good, though, and that will lead to this game being lower scoring. Look for a 1-0 or 1-1 type of game, and the under is going to cash here.
