Lithuania and the Faroe Islands face off on Thursday in League C Group 1 of the UEFA Nations League at LFF Stadium. When these two teams faced off on June 11th it was the Faroe Islands that secured the 2-1 victory.
The Faroe Islands currently sit in 3rd place in the group, having picked up four points. The Faroe Island’s last game came against Luxembourg on June 14th, and that game ended in a 2-2 draw. They only had 37 percent of the possession, but they had six shots on target, and that was enough to score the two goals. Veteran Klaemint Olsen and defender Rogvi Baldvinsson, are both expected to be in the starting lineup in this game, and both players are going to need to be key. Joannes Bjartalid scored twice in the last game, and it’s expected that he’s going to get the start in this game. I would expect the Faroe Islands to push numbers forward again in this game and put pressure on Lithuania.
On the other side of this matchup is Lithuania who sits in 4th place in the standings, not picking up any points. Lithuania has had some major issues the last few years, and in the last, they were defeated 2-0 against Turkey. Lithuania allowed 12 shots on goal, while they only managed one shot on goal. Lithuania also only had one shot on goal. After that last game, Lithuania made a coaching change, and with that is expected to be a style change. Lithuania needs a win in this game to avoid relegation, and I would expect that means they won’t play a defensive style in this game. Striker Augustinas Klimavicius is expected to get the start again in this game, and they are going to need goal scoring in this game.
Faroe Islands have really struggled away from home, and I don’t think they should be trusted in this game. There is no doubt that Lithuania has struggled coming into this game, but I expect they are going to push the numbers forward, and the Faroe Islands defense isn’t really known for defending. Look for Lithuania to score a couple of goals here, and pick up a win, which will avoid relegation.
