Southampton vs. Chelsea 8/30/22 EPL Soccer Picks, Predictions, Odds

Southampton and Chelsea face off on Tuesday in an English Premier League showdown at St. Mary’s Stadium. When these two teams faced off on April 9th it was Chelsea that secured the 6-0 victory. 

Chelsea comes into this game sitting in 6th place in the standings, having picked up seven points so far this year. Chelsea had one terrible loss against Leeds United, but outside of that game, they have played pretty well. In the last game against Leicester City, they kept their opponent on their back foot the entire game and were able to secure the 2-1 victory. Raheem Sterling was the star of the show, scoring a goal in the 47th minute and adding another goal in the 63rd minute. Chelsea was actually out shot in the game, but that really doesn’t tell the whole story. Chelsea on the season has scored only five goals, and they need to try to get the offense really ramped up. Conor Gallagher did pick up a red card in the last game, and won’t be available for this game. Kalidou Koulibaly is back from his red card suspension and should start in this game. 

On the other side of this matchup is Southampton, who sits in 13th place in the standings having picked up four points. Southampton has to feel pretty good about the way they have played this season, but they are coming off a loss in their last game against Manchester United. Southampton had 48 percent of the possession and five shots on target, but they couldn’t find the back of the net, and that led to the defeat. Southampton has scored five goals total and Che Adams has been the top goalscorer, putting two in the back of the net. I would expect Southampton to not have many chances from the same lineup that faced off against Manchester United. Armel Bella-Kotchap did get banged up in the last game, but he was able to finish the game. 

Chelsea were able to win over the weekend, while Southampton failed to score against Manchester United. Look for Southampton to struggle to score again and that will be the difference as Chelsea are going to get the job done again here. Back Chelsea on the money line to cash another bet.
