Canada vs. Honduras 9/2/21 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifications Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Canada and Honduras face off on Thursday in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifying game at BMO Field. These two teams last faced off in July of 2017 and the two teams played to a 0-0 draw.

Canada is a team that can usually find success against the lower tier teams, but then have issues against the United States and Mexico. In the Gold Cup, Canada was able to make it to the semi-finals against Mexico but were defeated 2-1. Canada gave up a goal in the 99th minute, and that led to the loss. Canada was on their backfoot most of the game, and only had 39 percent of the possession, but the defense was good. Two games ago against Costa Rica, Canada only had 44 percent of the possession, but they put two goals in the back of the net and that was the difference. Junior Hoilett and Stephen Eustaquio were the goal scorers. In this game, Canada should really be trying to have at least 50 percent of the possession in this game.

On the other side of this matchup is Honduras who have lost two games in a row. Two games ago against Qatar, they were defeated 2-0, and in the last game against Mexico they were defeated 3-0. Mexico scored three goals in a 12-minute span starting in the 26th minute. Honduras only had 34 percent of the possession and two shots on goal. The last win for Honduras came back on July 17th against Panama. In that game, Honduras scored three goals but still gave up two.

Honduras is a bad defensive team, and that is something Canada will take advantage of. I also think that Honduras can find the back of the net at least once, and that will lead to a high scoring game. Look for this game to go over 2.5 goals.
