Club Brugge is welcoming Paris Saint-Germain to Jan Breydel Stadium in round 1 of Group A of the UEFA Champions League. Brugge has lost only 1 of their last 9 games, and they are probably the best team in Belgium and have been for years. PSG is on a 5-game winning streak in Ligue 1 during which they scored 16 goals.
Club Brugge is at the top of the Belgian Pro League with 14 points, 15 scored goals, and 11 conceded goals. As we can see, Brugge’s defense isn’t the best, but at the moment, their offense is good enough for them to keep winning. In their last game against Oostende, Brugge has had 71% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 10 corner kicks, 9 big chances created, and 83% of the correct passes. Club Brugge has won this game 3-0, and it was a good game for them ahead of this matchup. Well, Club Brugge was unfortunate to end up in a group with PSG, Manchester City, and Leipzig, and honestly, they might win a few points, but it will be really hard for them to even end up in 3rd place to qualify for the Europa League.
PSG has been on fire in the attacking end, and this should finally be the game where Neymar, Messi, and Mbappe will be in the starting lineup, and Club Brugge will be in a lot of trouble if that happens. After starting this season with at least 1 conceded goal in their first 3 games, PSG has now kept 2 clean sheets in a row, and they are deservedly at the top of the table with 15 points. PSG is the biggest favorite to win the Champions League title this season, but they will need to keep their defense on a high level, and that will come once Ramos is finally ready to play. PSG now has a ton of depth, a lot of quality in the attacking end, their midfield has been strengthened, while their defense still needs some work, but they are getting there. Even without Messi and Neymar, PSG has a lot of firepower, and Mbappe has been in excellent goalscoring form, but he will need to learn to share the spotlight, at least for this season.
PSG has won 2 out of 3 games between these two teams, and I think they will win this one as well. Yes, Club Brugge is the best team in Belgium, but their defense has been sloppy, and PSG will use that to the max.
